Rampur Greyhound History
Rampur Greyhounds have been around for about 300 years, originating in Northern India. A dog with a truly regal history as they have been developed by Nawab Ahmad Ali Khan Bahadur, who was Nawab (an Indian ruler) of Rampur, popular city of Uttar Pradesh from 1794 to 1840. Rampur Greyhound were originally bred to hunt large animals and are known to be one of the fastest dogs in the world and can reach speeds above 40mph. Later on as the popularity of Nawab fell so this did influence the breeding of the Rampur Greyhound. Since then, many lines were bred with English hounds which makes it difficult to find a purebred Rampur Greyhound today. Rampur Greyhounds as a rare breed has just recently began gaining popularity but there are still very few that are alive today. |
